Why did Evinrude shut down?
The prospects for reopening would require substantial changes to production to allow for social separation and other health-related accommodations. Altogether, it made the most sense to shut down Evinrude and repurpose the plant for new products and consolidation.
Can you still buy Evinrude engines?
We are proud to have supplied you with outboard engines over the past 110 years. For business reasons, we have made the difficult and thoughtful decision to discontinue manufacturing of our outboard engines to focus on the next generation of propulsion.
When did Evinrude go out of business?
Founded by Ole Evinrude in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1907, it was formerly owned by the publicly traded Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC) since 1935 but OMC filed for bankruptcy in 2000. It was working as a subsidiary of Canadian Multinational Bombardier Recreational Products but was discontinued in May of 2020.
